Make 100 blocks. Play with your favourite fabrics. Make a quilt that looks unmistakably like you.

Kinship is a 100-block sampler designed for quilters who love fabric play, fussy cutting and variety. Choose machine piecing or foundation paper piecing (FPP), make a mix of 8" square and 4" × 8" blocks, then bring them together in one of two quilt layouts.

The machine-pieced version is beginner-friendly — the most advanced techniques are Half Square Triangles and Flying Geese — while the generous block scale gives you plenty of room to show off big prints, favourite motifs and the fabrics you’ve been saving for something special.

Every Kinship option gives you the full 100-block sampler and quilt layouts. The only decision is how you want to piece it and how you want your pattern delivered.

Prefer traditional machine piecing?
Choose the Machine Pieced version as either a Hard Copy or Digital PDF.

Love Foundation Paper Piecing?
Choose the Digital PDF — FPP version.

Want both construction methods?
Choose one of the bundle options combining the Machine Pieced and FPP versions.

Prefer paper but still want digital access?

100 quilt blocks in two finished sizes:
- 50 × 8" square blocks

Making the Machine Pieced version?
You can cut the blocks with a standard ruler and rotary cutter. Marti Michell templates and rulers can also be used if you already enjoy working with them, but they are completely optional.

How much fabric will I need?

For the 100 blocks, allow approximately 7 yards of fabric in total. This is a sampler, so there’s no compulsory colour-by-colour breakdown — mix prints, colours and scraps in whatever combination makes the quilt feel like yours.

You absolutely don’t need special templates or rulers to make Kinship — the Machine Pieced pattern includes standard rotary-cutting instructions.

Q: HOW WILL WE MAKE THE BLOCKS?

A: YOU CAN USE EITHER MACHINE PIECING OR FOUNDATION PAPER PIECING (FPP) - OR BOTH!

You can use EITHER or BOTH machine piecing and Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP).

Machine piecing will use a standard ruler, rotary cutter and sewing machine. Cutting and assembly instructions are provided in the pattern.

Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) will use copy paper (or FPP paper), fabric, scissors and a sewing machine. Templates will be provided in the pattern, along with beginner instructions for how to FPP.

The block sizes in these patterns range from 6" to 24" - see specific patterns for the blocks included.
